What we liked
- Durable, all-steel construction and the flawless, elegant brown powder-coated finish that doesn’t not rust, corrode, chip or peel. You can use it in various outdoor conditions without losing its color as it is water, mildew, fade, and UV resistant.
- Large thin base. It will not topple, and if used with a table, you will have plenty of where to place your legs.
- It is easy to clean since it doesn’t stain
- Easy to assemble and has two hard-turned knobs for securing your umbrella firmly.
Downside
- It is poorly packaged, predisposing it to scratches and damage.
- Costly
- Hard to move
What users are saying
“This is the bulletproof, monsoon proof, probably tornado-proof stand. Two tightening screws and about 50 lbs of powder-coated steel plate. If you’ve been frustrated with other outdoor umbrella bases, look no further. Expensive? Yes, but you get what you pay for here.” Overstock.com
“This stand was more than I wanted to spend, but it is perfect. Does not topple (I expect the umbrella may break, first) and has the added benefit of being flat, so it is not a tripping hazard, and you can lay a carpet over it if you wanted to. She waters her patio plants every day, and so far, no rust at all. I am going to buy another one. Very happy with it– much cheaper than an arbor! Oh, and it is pretty easy to move around, as well.” Amazon.com
“I had it for 2 months. Umbrella was down, and a good wind came through. Pole separated from the base and now leans precariously and is loose at the junction of the pole and base. I tried to return, but my “window for return” had closed. If you live in Oklahoma, or other windy places, take a pass. Very disappointed because it’s very heavy and relatively expensive.” Amazon.com
Our verdict
This solid steel Abba Base base will serve you well in your patio since it doesn’t topple if when paired with the right umbrella size. Buy it if you don’t want to move your umbrella from time to time since it doesn’t have wheels. You have to lift it. Alternatively, buy the Abba Patio brand with two inbuilt small wheels.
If you intend to use it freestanding on a larger umbrella, consider investing in additional weights such as Gravipod 18″ Round Umbrella Base Weight Bag, which will add 85 more, or the Abba Patio Round Umbrella Base Weight Bag.
